Rick Grimes
Is the protagonist of the series. Helper delegate in a small town in Georgia, United States, Rick Grimes is seriously injured in performance of their duties and at the time of the Apocalypse zombie is hospitalized in a coma. When regains consciousness, he is alone and begins to search for his wife, Lori, and his son, Carl.

Shane Walsh

Shane is the partner of Rick in the police department and his best friend since high school days. When the apocalypse happens - with Rick Grimes in a coma - Shane tries to keep Lori and Carl safe, leading them to Altanta. Shortly after the evacuation, Shane and Lori Grimes start having a brief affair that ends when Rick returns safely to Atlanta.

Daryl Dixon

It is an original character and is not present in the comic series. Became immensely popular since its first appearance. Daryl is a man racist, confrontational and aggressive who idolizes his older brother, Merle Dixon. An expert hunter and quite observant, Daryl is infallible with his crossbow, which proves to be very useful in hunting zombies.

Glenn Rhee
During one of his several visits to Atlanta besieged by zombies, Glenn knows and saved Rick's life. Glenn has a key role in the survival of the group, it is he who goes to the cities in search of food and other items. Young, smart and fearless, Glenn reveals himself as a person full of compassion and humanity, willing to risk his own skin to help others.

Lori Grimes
Convinced that her husband, Rick Grimes is dead, Lori Grimes accepts the protection of Shane Walsh and lets him take her, along with his son Carl to Atlanta. Extremely helpful and friendly, it is the emotional support of survivors. Amidst the chaos, she struggles to preserve his decency and his habits and his companions console facing personal tragedies. Lori is, above all, a very protective mother. 

Carl Grimes
Carl is the son of Rick and Lori Grimes Grimes and abandons his small town next to his mother and Shane. He is a sweet child, curious, intelligent, quiet lutanto to maintain their childlike innocence while dealing with the harsh reality and losses arising from the Apocalypse. He established a strong link with Shane, who took over in the absence of referential Parteno Rick. Carl is true worship by father and believes that Rick is indestructible.

Morgan Jones

Maggie Greene
Maggie is the eldest daughter of Hershel Greene and Josephine, stepdaughter Annette Greene and half-sister Beth and Shawn. Tomboy and a farmer's daughter, Maggie wears jeans, boots and rides a horse. She has a personality rail and is engaged to Glenn. 

Philip Blake
Governor is the charismatic leader of the community of Woodbury, a small "oasis" in the middle of fortified zombie apocalypse, where people still manage to give a touch of normalcy to their lives. It has a real militia that guards the city limits, eliminating walkers that approach. However, under all the charisma and leadership is hiding a dark side: he keeps captive Penny, his daughter zombie, hoping that there is a cure, also has a secret room where collects zombie heads perfectly placed in aquariums. 

Michonne
Michonne appeared as a mysterious figure in the first season finale of the second season, "Beside The Dying Fire". She saves Andrea, who tries to fight against zombies and save his life after the invasion of Hershel's farm by a horde. Sick and tired, Andrea Michonne is in the support and friendship to face the winter and recover, although this seems not to know details of the story of his savior.
